Review by Canadian Mike & Maria

We are a couple that stayed with Jaco for 2 nights and 3 days in November 2024.  It was the highlight of our Brazil trip.  Arrangements were made via whatsapp (in english) and all communications were clear. We received many useful tips during the whatsapp chat about how to get there and what to expect. We parked (free) a rental car in the town near the river and met our host. Then you take a short and fun adventure (cable pulled ferry and 4x4) to get to the farm. The room is excellent, it was newly renovated and has a private bathroom and shared shower.  Wifi is strong. The property is large and very relaxing, there are many cacao/fruit trees, a private waterfall, and lots of birds. Over the two night stay, some highlights were: touring the cacao farm with Jaco, wandering around the farm and the surrounding area (several nice views), picking and drinking fresh coconut water, cable pulled ferry, stargazing at night (it is very dark), warm hospitality and great conversations with Jaco/Joyce.  Amazing and unique place to visit, thank you Jaco!!!

We stayed at the fazenda São Jorge for about a week and a half. Our first introduction to the countryside of Bahía on this cocoa plantation was very enjoyable. On the one hand it was cozy because of the relaxed hospitality of Jaco and Joyce (our friends from way back), but on the other hand it was also adventurous to move around on a 4x4 quad, pull the manually operated ferry yourself, etc. Very interesting to get an explanation about running a 26-hectare cocoa plantation and to get to know the neighbors of the adjacent plantations. Never before have we had a private waterfall at our disposal at a lodging place! Delicious spring water from Jaco's own well and lots of flowers and herbs around the house.  The trips to the village and Itacaré together with Jaco and Joyce we really appreciated, but we also made walks ourselves and enjoyed the beautiful nature and friendly people. This stay is an excellent start for further exploration of the beautiful state of Bahía, for which we also got many useful tips from Jaco. And for the money you really don't have to leave it. I would call it a friend's price 🙂.

My wife and I had booked a week's stay at Fazenda (farm) São Jorge in Taboquinhas.

First of all, it is an experience to get there via a hand-pulled ferry, then over a jungle dirt road past cocoa, cassava and other tropical crop plantations interspersed with pieces of rainforest. Reception, accommodation, service, food and hospitality were perfect, extremely friendly and genuine. Our first evening was immediately relaxed and enjoying the natural tranquility. We had already seen and heard beautiful birds and at dusk a beautiful orchestra of crickets, cicadas and other nightlife began. Every morning at sunrise we walked out of a wind direction and we came into contact with the local culture and nature. Every day we enjoyed this remote and special place and its inhabitants. A unique point with an ambiance that you will not easily find among the standard and regular holiday destinations offered. In short, it's worth it and affordable too.
